Ahhh... I spent a week at Oak Island, NC. I only spent one day on the beach, because the weather turned windy and the surf became unruly. The tide came all the way up to the dunes! 
The morning on the beach was an exciting one. A little family of dolphins swam by between the sandbars. 
One of the fun parts of the week was hanging with Addie. While I was watching her, I decided to have a photo shoot on her play mat. First, I got some smiles.
She is only 3.5 months old, and she is cutting two bottom teeth! Her thing is to suck in her bottom lip and move her tongue over her lip and gums. I guess it feels weird, but it makes for some really funny faces.
I managed to catch that at the right time. Well, it was a week of pure R & R. I went to the pool a couple of times for sun. Now it's back to reality. I had an interview at Staples yesterday, and I will be starting next week! Only part-time. I will stay with them when school starts if I'm still 50%. My mother's father passed away in his sleep last Friday night. He had a life full of travel and adventures. Matthew and I travel to Georgia tomorrow for his visitation and funeral. I am always amazed at all the different people who are/were a part of the lives of the people I love. I'm sure there will be lots of stories. I hope you are all doing well! Summer is flying by so fast! Today is the last day of June! Meanwhile, I'm heading down to the old house to help get it ready to rent. Yay! Fun, fun, fun!
So, Matthew and I were sitting on the back deck, and he says, "Do you see that?" At that moment I see a Bobcat run into the woods. Now I know why Moldy does not want to go out sometimes.A few weeks ago, I chased a Red Fox into the woods as I was coming up the drive.A doe crossed the driveway in the apple orchard.You have seen pictures of our Wild Turkeys. There is only one wandering around these days.Yesterday, Matthew saw a snake next to the driveway. (He does not like snakes, like I do not like spiders.) Today, I saw the snake basically in the same spot. We had put down some straw nets to help the bank from washing, and this poor snake was caught up in the netting. So I did the only thing I knew... I cut it out. Matthew bravely went with me, and I made him take this pic before I let the poor little fellow go.
For anyone who knows how I love to pick up animals, you can appreciate the smile on my face.
I have found a new favorite place! The best part is that it's only 2 miles from my house! I went to find a "How-to" book on making Roman blinds. I found more than that! It was great. I checked out the "Curtains & Blinds" book, "Making Slipcovers", and "Afghans to Knit and Crochet". YAY! I am waiting for that great feeling of Summer Vacay to start so I can have fun with projects I want to do (not have to or need to do). I'll be sure to blog the Roman blinds process. It's supposed to be "easy", but we'll see.I hope all of you are having a happy June so far. Maybe I'll have some beach pics next week. ^_^
As soon as the last workday was finished, we celebrated properly Friday night. My friend Kristy (a middle school teacher) does an excellent job helping us celebrate. ^_^Matthew and I went to Sapphire for the weekend to hang with mom and dad. We had a great time. We went on a hike to Rainbow Falls (which was beautiful and massive). It was a 3 mile round trip hike with some not so easy terrain. I'm very proud of mom!
Sunday, we went out on the lake. Matthew and dad paddled around in a canoe. Mom and I took a little motor boat. It was a peaceful, beautiful day! Then we checked out a craft fair sponsored by the local Rotary. I found a perfect watercolor of Moldy.
Matthew and I came home Sunday afternoon. It was a nice little getaway.
Monday, we were right back into it. I went to an orchestra rehearsal, and Matthew was busy doing estimates.
Tuesday, we went to a quartet rehearsal together (since I'm playing a wedding with them on Saturday).
Wednesday, I went to orchestra rehearsal. I was playing viola but was switched to 2nd violin. It was fun while it lasted :P
Today (Thursday), I have my honey-do list and an education committee meeting tonight. I am the Program Director for our Summer String Camp again. This is my third year.
Saturday, we have our orchestra dress rehearsal in the morning, an early evening wedding, and then dinner with the Kings to celebrate birthdays.
Sunday, we have our concert.
Meanwhile, I am waiting for it to feel like summer vacation. I think next week will be better since I think I will be at the beach! It's going to be difficult, because there are a millions things that need doing on the little house. We need to get it rented out and soon! But I guess it will still be there when I get back. Maybe if I get off the computer and work on it the next few days...
Thanks for listnening! I'm not miserable. I actually function better when I'm busy (but not stressed). I don't need to remain idle.
So, June 10 was the last day for school for the students, which ended with a great game of Apples to Apples (I think a new tradition has been born). The next two days I spent trying to clean my room (which I may have all to myself next year). Whoa... let me back up. I have shared a room with the chorus teacher for the last three years. I am only 50% time, and I have one class in the Band room and one class in the Chorus room. Sadly, there is not a "Strings" room. (Now I am probably jinxing myself with this next part). The Chorus teacher is leaving and teaching at another school (his choice). Since my certification is "Music K-12", I can technically teach chorus. IF they keep chorus for next year (stupid budget cuts), I would teach chorus and orchestra which means I'd be full-time which means I'll have benefits (even though that getting trimmed, too).OK. Before I could beging to clean my room, I found out that they are doing a $400,000 remodel of the cafeteria (which is outside the music "wing"). Guess where half the cafeteria tables are getting stored? Yup. Room is full of tables. I was able to clean off my desk.Anyhoo... what a wacky year! I'm glad it's over. It wasn't bad. I took students to Festival in Grade 5/6 music (6 being the highest) and received a Superior rating. I just never felt like I was "with it" this year. I think building the house affected my internal balance. Here's to what next year may bring!
