Actually, I think there were techinal difficulties, but the general consensus was to go with cabinets. The next items I must go purchase are toilets, bath/shower, and sinks. The plumber will be returning soon. :)
Meanwhile, the roof trusses are being placed! So I will definelty bombard my blog with pictures soon.
Until then...

Anniversary Day...
Yesterday, Matthew and I celebrated our 5 year anniversary. Being the simple folk that we are (and trying to save $ building a house) we kept it simple. We "stole" his mom's BMW convertible and drove it to Landrum, SC. It was a totally cute town. We looked at several antique shops and ate at a really cute restaurant. They had a sign on the wall that said, "Any children left unattended will be given an espressro and a free puppy." I thought that was pretty good.
Anyhoo... on the way back, I convinced him to pay $3 each to hike up to see "Pearson's Falls." It was a simple hike, and it was a pretty waterfall.

We had a nice day together.
Let me know what your "vote" will be. I think we are leaning towards matching everything to cabinets. Who knows????????????

In the beginning...
There was grading.

The trusses will be set beginning Monday. We will have a roof by the end of next week!

What's that saying about a solid foundation?

And then there were walls. (For those of you who do not know, Matthew, does solid concrete walls for a living.)
I have tried to take pictures from every angle. This one seems to be the house's best "side." Our basement floor is beautiful, because we know a very good finisher (someone who makes concrete look "pretty").

There is something to be said for having a floor beneath your feet.

This actually skips a few steps, but brings us (you) up to today. This picture was taken yesterday. All week I have been waiting on a roof to be put on the house, and it turns out that is will be done the beginning of next week.

Until then...

Building a House
Since Monday, I have been shopping. Sounds like fun, yes? Well, I have been looking at endless displays of sinks, tubs, showers, toilets, countertops, & flooring. Needless to say, I am feeling a little overwhelmed. Of course, it doesn't help that I'm indecisive, and this is all new for me.

Please don't misunderstand, however. I am excited about the house. I tell everyone about it. Heck... I seem to be blogging about it now. This picture is a little old. I will find some more up-to-date pictures later.

If anyone out there happens to come across this and has some advice, I will welcome it.
What to expect?
I have titled this "Country Livin'" because I couldn't think of anything else. I will mostly be blogging about building our new house, but there are other things I may talk about.
It is an exciting time. For the last 3.5 years I have lived in a little, block house that I can vacuum from one plug! Soon, I will have a house with closet space and kitchen space.
Although, this little house has so much character. It's adorable. It was haunted when we first moved into it, but I think they have left.
There are some old cherry trees and Concord grape vines on the property. For the last 3 years I have made jelly from these fruits. It's pretty cool. I grew up visiting my Grandma who canned and made jellies. I regret that I never appreciated it when I was younger, because I didn't know how special that was.
Well... I'm an excellent babbler, and I think that is all for now. Here is the side view of our little farm house (and the cat).
